The Warrior Arts Training Center offers the following Wilderness and Urban Survival Training.

Survival 1 – Basic outdoor wilderness survival training: Shelter, Water, Fire & Food

Survival 2 – Advanced Shelters for extreme temperatures. Additional and advanced methods of fire by friction and well as a more in depth study of traps and snares.

Cold Weather Weekend – An intensive study in cold weather shelters. Participants of this weekend will be tested to their limits in cold weather ( minus 0 ) using minimal tools.

Fire Workshop Weekend – An intensive study in multiple methods of primitive fire making: Bow drill, Hand drill, Flint & Steel, Fire Plough, and many other methods.

Primitive Weapons Weekend – A study of primitive weapons including: Bow & Arrow, Bola, Sling, Atlatl, various clubs and war hammers, etc… many of our students make museum quality weapons by end of workshop.

Urban Survival – How to prepare for various disaster or emergency’s.

Survival Trek – Students of at least basic and advanced survival will venture out for a 5 day trip into the remote wilderness with few tools and fewer supplies. We will make out own way by foraging, trapping and providing shelter, water, fire and food using primitive Indian techniques to test our skills.

The Four Essential Wilderness Survival Skills

SHELTER: Short term shelter building. An in depth look at the Debris Hut and the Scout Pit (semi-temporary shelter designed to remain invisible on the landscape). How to survive in a shelter built by you in temperatures below 30 F.

WATER: How to find, gather, purify and store water found in the wilderness. Gathering water from plants, dew, natural and man made catches.

FIRE: Making fire with primitive tools. Bow Drill, Mouth Drill and Hand Drill will all be taught. Building and maintaining a fire will also be practiced. Students will each nurture and coax their own hot coal with tinder made from them into a fire. If you have ever wanted to build a fire without matches or a lighter, this is your chance.

FOOD: Basic study of edible plants and animals. We will cover the trapping methods used for catching wild animals. We will also focus on preparation of wild plants and animals to eat.

Last month I found myself stranded in northern Vermont, locked out of my car during a snow storm. I had nothing but the clothes on my back. Normally I would have panicked, but after attending your survival seminar last month I was confident that with what I learned that I could retreat into the woods and stay alive until help arrived. THANK YOU!... - Randy Walters, Winter 2003.
